A while back I wanted to buy a humidifier but didn’t really know where to begin, perhaps because I had never purchased one before. I am not the type of person who rushes to buy something without conducting a personal background research on the product at least to know what to expect and better still, to avoid making costly mistakes. Well, I already have one in my home and my family and I are reaping the benefits.
Types of humidifiers
There are basically two types of humidifiers namely: Warm Mist humidifier (Warm Moisture) and Cool mist humidifier (Cool Moisture). After researching on several issues, I decided to settle for cool mist. Generally, the final decision when choosing a humidifier is usually based on personal preferences. Perhaps the only difference inherent in the two humidifiers is that they work in different ways. Nevertheless, the end result is basically the same; they are used for adding moisture to the air which in turn helps in easing coughs and congestion brought by a cold.
Why I chose cool mist
One of the things that made me fall in love with cool mist humidifier is the margin of safety it offers to Isabel and Irving (my two young children). I realized that the hot water or even steam generated by warm mist humidifier is capable of burning them if they ever get too close. What is more, in case of any spills, the hot water can also burn. The cold mist one keeps me at peace most of the time regardless of where I may be.
I was working on a budget and so wanted something reasonably inexpensive. Warm mist humidifiers are more expensive and this is another reason why I settled for cool mist. The latter are cheaper because I am not paying for the heating element and the energy costs are also manageable. I ensure to clean it regularly so as to minimize risk of bacteria. My humidifier has a filter that requires changing for it to maintain performance levels.
